2 of 3 Part Series: How to maintain an exercise routine when working full time & having a family

So often I hear clients tell me that they don’t have time to exercise, it’s boring or it’s hard to stick to.

I’d find this too if I had a routine in place that didn’t work for me but I have instead created one that works for me, its enjoyable and easy to stick to.

Please note my routine will be different from yours as everyone’s situation is different but I wanted to share with you how I crafted mine.

Getting up early to exercise does not work for me as I need my sleep and I don't have time to exercise after work, I'm too tired and there is too much going on our evenings with Ethan to be consistent with it.

However, I do work in the city and once I drop Ethan off to daycare I often have 15 minutes spare before I start work at 8am. What I do to ensure I get exercise in no matter what is park in a car park that is a 10 minute walk from work.

This means I have to walk a minimum of 20 minutes a day no matter what or I can’t get home! I love it as it helps me clear my head before and after work.

I also go for a 15-20min walk during my lunch break at least 3 times a week to recharge the batteries for the afternoon.

When it comes to crafting your routine have a think about what spaces you have during the day and what you can do to ensure you get some sort of exercise in.

Could you park further away from work, go for a walk at lunch, take the stairs, get up every 1-2 hours and walk around the office etc… give yourself the space to get creative!

Plus you can enhance your exercise routine with music, podcast, audiobook or walking with a friend or calling a friend and doing a “talk and walk” together.

The benefits of implementing an exercise routine that is tailored to you include having more energy, weight loss/management, building strength/muscle, feeling more alert and happier.

Allow yourself the time to craft an exercise routine that works for you. There is always something you can do to enable you to move more.
