Today I wanted to talk about the notion of the magic pill that will help us quickly and easily lose weight.
I often get asked "what tips do you have on losing weight?" and when I tell them about increasing their veggie intake, having protein with every meal, keeping treats as treats and being more active (as just an example) they look somewhat disappointed because it sounds too simple, boring and won't give them quick weight loss.
Unfortunately, weight gain due to poor diet and lifestyle habits cannot be cured by a magic pill.
Yes there are various weight loss treatments, medications and diets that may work in the short term, however (side effects aside) once you stop the weight typically comes back.
Why? Because the cause is not being addressed.
What doesn't help is we live in a world where we are used to getting things fast! We can:
buy any food we like all year round without needing to grow/prepare it ourselves
google anything we can think of and get an answer instantaneously
order meals via an app and have it delivered to our door within 30 minutes
order a parcel and get it delivered the next day
watch a whole TV series vs waiting on each individual episode to come out each week (remember those days?)
We're so used to things happening fast that we expect the same when it comes to losing weight.
Unfortunately, we can't simply dissolve several years of weight gain with a magic pill because it's simply not a sustainable or real solution.
A more sustainable and long term solution comes down to making healthier diet and lifestyle choices.
The best way to do this so it's sustainable long term is incorporating diet and habit changes that are enjoyable, easy to implement and work in with how you live your life.
If this resonates with you I encourage you to have a think about what are some sustainable changes you can put in place today to help you with getting started in losing weight in a more sustainable way.
And, if you'd like some help and support with losing weight sustainably, increasing energy levels and/or improving your relationship with food why not book in for a nutrition consultation? I offer consults via Telehealth or In-Person.
