Do you find when you have good self-care practices in place life is much easier? You feel more nourished, balanced, organised and just generally on top of things? I certainly do!
Often when life gets a little chaotic though we stop doing the things that support our overall wellbeing and that's the time when we need them the most.
So today I though I'd share some daily self care practices that I recommend and also do to stay balanced during the day, even when things go a little awry!
They help keep my head above water, even when things are busy or stressful, and they may help you do the same.
Lets get into them!
Setting an Intention
This first daily practice I do is setting an intention for the day, before I get out of bed. I actually do this in the evening too. I simply spend a few minutes focusing on how to want to feel or what I want my day to look like and see/feel it happening.
Some of my intentions are:"I'm going to have a great day today", "I'm going to wake up feel energised and motivated today", "I'm going to feel happy and balanced today"etc...You'll be surprised at how setting your intention can make a big difference to how your day pans out.
Daily Movement
My next daily practice is moving my body regularly whether that's going for a walk in nature, taking the stairs, stretching, dancing like a silly bum for my son or throwing the ball for my dogs. It's important to aim for around 30 minutes in total each day, but any movement is good and is vital for our overall wellbeing.
Staying Hydrated
When your body is dehydrated it contributes to all sorts of unrest in the body including overheating, being drowsy or feeling irritable. Adequate hydration is key to our wellbeing as well as our digestion.
I aim to drink 3L a day (the recommendation is is 2L) as I live in a hot climate and carry a water bottle around with me to help in doing that.
Making Healthy Food Choices
Another key self care practice is making healthy food choices - whether that's choosing a wrap or salad vs hot chips or Chinese for lunch, adding more veggies into your dinners, choosing a healthy snack over a fatty/refined sugar one or knowing when to put that fork or spoon down.
Each day I focus on how I can nourish my body as I know healthy foods gives me energy, help me feel clear minded and alert and boosts my mood. I also like to have a treat here and there too, but I keep them as treats vs having them all the time.
Planning the Day
Lastly I plan my day and week by creating a list of key actions/focuses. If it's a Monday morning, I'll review my week ahead, write down what I have coming up and set actions to complete for the week. This isn't a lengthy process at all and helps keep me focused and on track with what I need to do each day.
If any of these peak your interest or are things you can begin incorporating into your morning routine, give them a go this week!
You'll be surprised at how a few self care practices can help with feeling more balanced during the day.
